Use cases
Drawtonomy’s main focus is self-driving / autonomous driving (AD/ADAS) — figures, scenario sketches, OpenSCENARIO / Lanelet2 authoring. The lane / vehicle / intersection vocabulary is general enough that it also fits a number of adjacent situations, and the built-in Math (KaTeX) tool makes drawtonomy useful as a generic LaTeX equation whiteboard for any field.
Self-driving / autonomous driving (AD / ADAS) — main
Section titled “Self-driving / autonomous driving (AD / ADAS) — main”- Figures for autonomous driving papers — LaTeX-friendly scene illustrations.
- Equations next to autonomous-driving figures — typeset LaTeX cost functions, controllers, prediction objectives beside the scene.
- Slides for design review — clean intersection figures for slide decks.
- Scenario figures for blog posts and technical articles — embeddable, social-card-friendly figures for engineering blogs.
- Sketching before OpenSCENARIO authoring — visual draft → XML.
- Sketching ADAS test scenarios — cut-in, lane-merge, and corner-case diagrams.
- Visualizing cut-in and lane-change scenarios — the recurring functional scenarios at the heart of every test catalog.
LaTeX equations — any field
Section titled “LaTeX equations — any field”- Equations in research paper figures — free, browser-based LaTeX/KaTeX editor that exports paper-safe SVG / PDF / EPS for IEEE, arXiv, and thesis submissions.
- Equations in slides and blog posts — 2-minute path from a LaTeX expression to a PNG/SVG that drops into Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint, Notion, Medium, Substack, or Ghost.
- Math whiteboard for teaching and review — typed equations + freehand annotations on one infinite canvas, for tutoring sessions, lecture handouts, and explainer threads.
HD maps and SLAM
Section titled “HD maps and SLAM”- Editing Lanelet2 maps in the browser — fix small map issues without JOSM.
- Annotating ROS occupancy grid maps — paper-ready annotations of SLAM maps.
- Lanelet2 → OpenSCENARIO workflow — go from Autoware HD map to a test scenario.
Education
Section titled “Education”- Teaching autonomous-driving concepts — domain-aware figures for AV classes and tutorials.
- Driving school and driver-education diagrams — intersection, lane-change, and right-of-way sketches for lesson plans.
- Road safety education and everyday road sketches — classroom worksheets, family route discussions, blog posts, social-media road graphics.
Adjacent domains
Section titled “Adjacent domains”- Accident reconstruction and insurance scene sketches — quick personal sketches; for professional reconstruction use dedicated tools.
- Traffic engineering and urban-planning sketches — quick figures for public meetings and reports; production analysis stays in Synchro, VISSIM, and similar.
